What are the best lenses to use for Canon PhotoMarathon XVI 2018 Singapore?
Seasoned photographer, Isaac Ong, who focuses on landscapes, portraits, macro and infrared photography recommends the EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM and EF-S17-55mmf/2.8L IS USM.
Jun Pagalilauan believes that imagery matters the most and recommends the EF16-35mm f/2.8L II USM and the EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM to achieve his vision.
Former Canon PhotoMarathon winner, Lemjay Lucas, also trusts the popular and versatile EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM.
Why did you pick these lenses and how do they help?
“EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM combines a flexible zoom range with image stabilisation, fantastic image quality, and helps isolate a subject from the background. The EF24-70mm f2.8L II USM and EF-S17-55mmf/2.8L IS USM are superb walk around lenses covering a wide range of focal lengths,” says Isaac Ong.
“EF24-70mm f2.8L II USM is best for all around shooting during the Canon PhotoMarathon and covers wide and tight shots. The EF50mm F/1.8 STM is also a good option. It is light to carry around, inexpensive, and produces sharp images,” tells Pichan Cruz.
“EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM and EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM will help to capture wide as well as medium zoom range shots. If you analysed the past PhotoMarathon winning shots, they fall under these focal length ranges. It’s also better to carry lightweight on the long day than bringing too many items,” explains Kajan Madrasmail.
“The EF16-35mm f/2.8L USM and the EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM can cover both wide and zoom areas. They are both fast lenses and can produce quality images,” adds Jun Pagalilauan.
“I would stick to my EF24-105mm f/4L IS II USM. It is perhaps the most flexible amongst Canon’s line of L lenses because of its wide and zoom focal lengths, packed into one lens. The aperture of this lens is also enough to produce top-notch quality images, especially when used with a full-frame body. Another advantage of using this lens for this type of competition is its light weight. During the CPM, do expect to walk and run trying to capture the moment and having a lightweight gear helps you move faster and conserve energy as well. Plus, it’s my pick because I captured my winning shot with this lens for CPM 2014,” concludes Lemjay Lucas.
Keep these tips in mind for the upcoming Canon PhotoMarathon XVI Singapore 2018, and get your cameras ready to roll!
