The Canon PhotoMarathon is more than just a competition; it is a great way for photographers to come together and make new friends who share the same passion. Here are some behind the scenes shots from past Canon PhotoMarathon events captured by our EOS World Community Ambassador, Isaac Benjamin Ong. In this article, they share their most memorable experiences and a few tips for those participating this year!
Isaac Benjamin, EOS World Community Ambassador
Isaac photographs landscapes, portraiture, macro, nature and also experiments with infrared photography. He strives to take unique photos in his own style and to stand out with a different perspective. He has shot street and landscapes in Japan and was one of the frontline photographers for Singapore’s National Day Parade.

I joined the Canon PhotoMarathon in 2017 with a team of people all named Isaac. The chance to compete against photographers, and see how the industry was like as a whole enticed me to participate in the Canon PhotoMarathon. In addition, the prizes were really tempting! Our passion for photography made us closer and we clicked well with each other. Therefore, we decided to get together as “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”. Here are some behind-the-scenes shots from our time spent at the Canon PhotoMarathon!
Tip 1: Use your personality to find inspiration
During the Canon PhotoMarathon, we attempted to take wacky shots by finding inspiration using our fun personalities. Everyone is different and has a different perspective. That’s the beauty of working with a team!

Tip 2: Choose a unique location
Remember to look beyond what everyone’s shooting! If you’re in the same spot as 10 other people, chances are, it’s not going to be uniquely yours. Be experimental and increase your chances of standing out from the crowd.

Tip 3: Be Prepared
Always be prepared to face surprising moments along the way. Things might not always go according to plan. Checking out every booth at the event prior to the start of the competition might help you in different ways to prepare for the Canon PhotoMarathon!
We hope Isaac’s tips have been helpful and we look forward to seeing you at the Canon PhotoMarathon XVII 2019 this Saturday, 12 October 2019, at Our Tampines Hub!
If you have not registered for the Canon PhotoMarathon XVII 2019 in either the Student or Open Category, it’s not too late and you can still register online here by 10 October 2019. Otherwise, walk-in registrations on the event day are welcome as well!
Here’s wishing all our Canon PhotoMarathoners the best of luck and a fun day of photo challenges and activities!
