In case you haven’t heard, Asia’s largest photography competition Canon PhotoMarathon XVI Singapore 2018 (CPMSG2018) is now open for registration! If you’re still contemplating on whether or not to participate, we hope these reasons will help you to come to a decision.

Meet the Canon community

While photography may seem like a solo hobby, nothing beats having a group of friends who share the same passion as you do. At CPMSG2018, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a family-like community and interact with photo enthusiasts from all walks of life.

Consider joining the team challenge at CPMSG2018, which allows open category participants to compete as a team of four to win additional prizes. Of course, it is the sense of camaraderie and teamwork that matters more than the competition itself at the end of the day! By working together, you will gain valuable insight into different photography styles and techniques which could very well help in your own photography.

Ignite that spark for creative photography

If you’re feeling creatively dull, fret not! At CPMSG2018, participants are tasked to submit a photo that best depicts a theme within a given deadline. These given themes can provide you with an abundance of fresh inspiration and help to spark new ideas. You might be surprised with the sudden burst of creativity that emerges when working under limitations and pressure!

A particular theme can be interpreted in many different ways and this makes it exceptionally interesting. You will be encouraged to think outside of your comfort zone and reconsider the way typical objects or locations are shot. All in all, photographers are challenged to create an impactful image that is both creative and dynamic, but also one that stands out from the rest of the participants. The question is – are you up for it?

Chase the light

For the first time ever, participants will be treated to a ‘dusk’ challenge and this final theme will be announced at 5pm, unlike the previous years where it was announced at 3pm. In other words, there will be a rush against time as natural light slowly fades away. This puts to test your low-light photography skills and at the same time, provides you with opportunities to get creative with the lights around the city.

Obtain new knowledge

Needless to say, CPMSG2018 is a great opportunity for photographers of different levels to come together. It is not only a day of exploration but also interaction and learning. Be prepared to check out the latest Canon gears at the event and to gain new knowledge through the sharing of experiences from EOS World professional photographers and many more!

Grow from self-assessment

While it may be nerve-wracking to have your work judged by the pros, the benefits are still plentiful. A photo contest gives you a chance to examine your own strengths and weaknesses. Self-assessment is essential for any photographer, thus it is important to keep an open-mind and to take every opportunity as a learning experience. CPMSG2018 enables you to compare your work with others and set a higher work standard for yourself. This ultimately pushes you to improve as a photographer!
